Special Education

Washington Online is responsible for providing a free and appropriate education under the federal Individuals and Disabilities in Education Act. (IDEA) The Special Education Department assists parents in accessing and coordinating services pursuant to a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Special Education (SPED) services are available to students who have been identified with a learning disability.

TEACHER Sara Souza heads our Special Education program.  She works with a team of specialists to provide the additional services for our students.  If you have any question about our program, please contact her for more information.
RESOURCES This folder contains various files that can help in teaching and dealing with children with or without special needs.
ONLINE SESSIONS Our online speaker series includes sessions done by Sara to provide additional insights and helps for parents.  Click to see her current sessions.
E-OFFICES Each teacher has an e-office that you can visit for help or online meeting, parties, games etc...  If you are invited to attend an event in an electronic-Office (Blackboard Room), you simply need to be online and click on the link provided.  This page has a list of the links for each e-office.

Randi Earl - Speech/Language

I am the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) for WOSU. I graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education and a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology. I am a member of ASHA (American Speech and Hearing Association) and have worked for both Iron and Washington Counties providing speech and language services. I joined the staff of WOSU in 2009.

Jamie Havertz - Speech Assistant

I was born and raised in San Diego, California where I spent most of my free time hanging out at the beach. A few years ago I decided to attend Utah State University, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education. I love to wake-board, snowboard, go shopping, bake, have a good time with friends and family and hang out with kids! I recently relocated to St. George Utah to be closer to family and enjoy the warm weather! I look forward to be working with you all! I began working for WOSU in 2012.  I love wake boarding, snowboarding, cooking, shopping and hanging out with good friends and family. I have a passion for children and I am excited to be working with the students to help them overcome their challenges. 

Rita Zimmerman - Psychologist

I graduated from Brigham Young University in 1993 with a bachelor of science degree in home economics education and French teaching. I taught in the Wasatch and Provo School Districts before enrolling in graduate school. In 2000, I graduated from Brigham Young University with a master's degree in school psychology and school counseling. I work part-time as a school psychologist for Davis School District.  I do contract testing and consultative services for Washington Online School. As a school psychologist, I most enjoy facilitating individual services that lead students to success by utilizing learner strengths.

Andrea Paxman - Psychologist

I graduated in 2005 from Brigham Young University with a master's degree in school counseling psychology. I hold licensure in school psychology and school counseling in the state of Utah. I have worked for the Alpine and Washington County school districts and currently work for the Davis School District and contract testing and consultative services for Washington Online School. As a school psychologist, I most enjoy providing behavior consultation to teachers and parents. I live in West Point, Utah with my husband and two children.
