Six Traits of Writing with Meagan Johnston

Please join me for some ideas and tips with writing. This is a series of two- part classes. This class will be presented monthly with a focus on a different trait each month. Look for more times/dates TBA.

Trait #1:  Ideas
In this first set of sessions, we will be learning about ideas in writing: how to come up with ideas, what makes a good idea, etc. Students and parents are welcome.  Click here for HANDOUTS.

Trait #2:  Organization

Is your writing a little disorganized? The trait of organization is the hardest for students to master. It is hard to see the big picture when writing. Come learn some methods/shortcuts to help your student learn that organization is the key to writing an enticing tale!

Trait #3:  Voice

Put your opinion in your writing. Learn how to add your voice to the papers you write. It will spice up your papers and liven up your stories!

Trait #4 Sentence Fluency

Learn about creating great stories by using varied sentence structure. In this class we will learn about what makes a good sentence. We will also practice writing sentences, and use our skills to write about two similar houses. Which house will you be writing about? Only good details, word choice, and sentence structure will tell.

Trait #5 Word Choice

Spice up your writing with interesting and outstanding word choices. Sometimes students seem so caught up in their ideas, organization, and grammar that word choice may take a backseat. The use of good word choices will open their eyes to a whole new world of writing.
